Workers' Rights and Economic Justice

All workers must be guaranteed health and safety rights and no worker should be discriminated against, retaliated against or laid off due to health and safety concerns. Ms. Youngblood commits to using the full power of the city government to hold employers accountable to the Workers’ Bill of Rights. She is working to protect the common interest of ALL workers in New Orleans. She supports organized labor unions, childcare, guaranteed paid time off, guaranteed paid maternity and paternity leave and paid sick leave, reasonable hours, closing the gender pay-gap, Equal Pay for Equal Work for Women, Ban the Box, safer working conditions, paying workers a $15 minimum living wage, and higher pay. Ms. Youngblood will uphold the fact that everyone should earn a fair and livable wage, have better than ample working conditions, reserve the right to refuse unsafe work, and receive paid overtime. People are underpaid and overworked, and businesses are understaffed across the city of New Orleans. It is a necessity that we create more jobs and bolster revenue. During her time in office, Ms. Youngblood will create more city jobs that are sourced in and focused on our beautiful community. Ms. Youngblood plans to appropriate funds to support those in our community who are in need of employment and offer new jobs that, not only uplift the residents of New Orleans, but serve our community needs; bettering our quality of life. With the resources available to us, we can support and create a holistic job market that remedies many issues within our community. Through creating more community jobs and community programs, we can live in a more successful community, develop and sustain more resources, and help those in need. Ms. Youngblood will provide aid and incentives to small business owners.
